Rolling Sky Discord (short form: RSD) was the second of the three major eras of the server which is today known as Rolling Lounge. Lasting from October 3rd of 2018 to January 25th of 2020 (1 year, 3 months and 23 days, with the third era called "Rolling Lounge" replacing it), this era acted as the pinnacle of the server history in terms of activity, community size and strength, activities, and more.

History

After some time of its existence, the management and the community of Reflex Games Discord had discovered several issues with the contents of the server. The first issue was that Dancing Ball lost relevance drastically due to its slow delivery of updates, which also made the challenge making of it harder. The second issue were problems with other servers due to the existence of Dancing Line as a main game, because of an already existing place mainly dedicated to it, rendering Dancing Line a bit useless on Reflex Games Discord's side. While there wasn't much of a point seen in keeping Dancing Line and Dancing Ball, the new game Rolling Dream was in its early stages and had already attracted a lot of people, causing the first big member spike. The most popular challenge type were Rolling Sky challenges, and most of the community pretty much consisted of Rolling Sky players. Because of this, it was decided that it would make more sense to prioritize Rolling Sky (and its sequel) as there were no other active servers solely concentrating on Rolling Sky on Discord. Hence, the server name was changed to "Rolling Sky Discord" and its fundamentals also customized to fit the name.

Server Contents

Challenges and Economy

With the removal of Dancing Line and Dancing Ball, their dedicated challenge channels were also removed, leaving only Rolling Sky challenges (and partially Rolling Dream challenges, which however were quite limited due to its release only being on iOS for a long time). That's why Rolling Sky challenges were expanded drastically, as a new Challenge Manager team under the rulership of RoyalMike had formed and gone through intensive planning for events. The currency $RGD was renamed to $RSD and several other currencies were added, which were used to buy different items. Some of these different currencies were special to specific challenge types, some of them listed and explained below.

Expansion of Rolling Sky Events

For a long time, all that Rolling Sky Challenges consisted of was to get a specific percentage, gem and crown amount in a specific level, which was slowly seen as boring and repetitive by the members. Due to this, the Challenge Manager team added several new modes to the challenges adding twists and tricks, which made them far more varying and interesting. Some of them were "Mix n' Match" (Several levels being needed to be beaten, but all of their percentages, gem and crown amounts needing to add up to the challenge requirements), "CIY / Create It Yourself" (Ability to change the challenge requirement in a specific spectrum if you beat the main challenge first) and many more. This increased the participator amount by a lot and therefore the Challenge Manager team put intensive work in creating a Google Spreadsheet showing the entire leaderboard of RSD.

Weeklys

Weeklys were - as the name says - challenges, that were hosted every week instead of every day ("Dailys"). Due to them appearing less often, the challenges required more time to beat and also rewarded the winners more. Unique to the Weeklys was the role "Challeader", which was given to the winner of the current Weekly challenge. Instead of being one challenge like in the Dailys, Weeklys often included many challenges combined in one, leading to a sort of race throughout the week.

More Events

While the events in RSD mainly focussed on Rolling Sky, there have also been general quizzes added, such as the famous "Thinking Corner", where riddles and quizzes about any topic were hosted.

Community

Due to the removal of Dancing Line and Dancing Ball as official server games, a part of the members left the community due to their disinterest in Rolling Sky. This part was rather small however, since the community reached its peak size during the Rolling Sky Discord era, reaching ~2500 members at its maximum. Due to its name and defined topic, people could identify if the things that they would like to talk about was included in the server and therefore made the server more attractive. While there were a lot of people who solely chatted about Rolling Sky (and its sequel) or people who didn't chat often, there were also a lot of people who befriended each other in the server, expanding the "Core Community" of the server (also called "Diamond Heart" by some members).

This core community almost solely used Rolling Sky Discord to chat in all of Discord and built a lot of projects together to increase the community feeling or benefit the server in any other way. Notable projects were the continuation of the Family Pictures and the extreme growth of the Rolling Sky Discord Community YouTube Channel. Many other "unofficial" artworks were drawn for the server and a website dedicated to RSD was also in the works.

Growth

With the growth of the community, the YouTube Content Creators inside the server also increased, which also advertised the server on their videos. To this day, some Rolling Sky videos still have a link to the server, referring it as "Rolling Sky Discord". A lot of people joined the server to talk about their favourite game on the biggest Discord server about it, or also wanted to get in touch with the Content Creators they watched. Another encouragement for joining the server was also the presence and for the first time, activity of official Rolling Sky developers outside of Chinese chatting applications.

Rolling Sky Officials

Though the first Rolling Sky Officials already had joined the server in its first major era "Reflex Games Discord", they showed little to no activity due to businesses and The Great Firewall in China, which also blocked Discord. In the RSD Era however, the activity of the officials increased by a bit, causing an incredibly large amount of people to join the chat and try to interact with the officials. The two officials in the server at that time were "figo" and "Grace".

Problems

Raiders

towo

While the MLG Dancing Line problem was fixed relatively quickly in the Reflex Games Discord era, the towo problem continued to persist. Raids were continuing, however the way they were executed in took a giant change in 2019.

Ramesh

Ramesh was an Indian member of the Dancing Line community back in 2019, and while the member had done some mistakes, their intents weren't necessarily evil. Due to these mistakes repeating eventually moderation was taken against him. The "towo" raider (team) took advantage of this and impersonated Ramesh to use these accounts as their raiding accounts now. These raids were one of the biggest ones seen in the server history, putting the name "Ramesh" in a very bad reputation as no one knew the raider accounts were maintained by towo. To fight against raids, members of RSD and related communities founded a server solely used to collect User IDs of the raiders and investigate them. As the real Ramesh contacted individuals trying to explain the truth, the truth about the Ramesh raider accounts were uncovered as well. As destroying Ramesh's reputation wasn't very possible now, the raid amounts started to decline.

Community problems

Drama

Due to its peak of activity and community size, Rolling Sky Discord suffered from a lot of community drama, which mostly happened inside of RSD itself instead of also including other servers. A lot of arguments happened at this time for various reasons, may it be because of Rolling Sky (arguments about game contents), specific moderation measures taken against members, people feeling disrespected and more. Some dramas in this era also caused parts of the core community to either temporarily or permanently take their leave from the server.
