The Rolling Lounge Network Opening was a server update that happened on November 21st of 2021, where Rolling Lounge was turned into a network instead of just a server and spread to a total of four topic-specific servers, the so called Districts. The servers were made accessible through a Portal channel inside of all Rolling Lounge Network servers.

History

After the Rolling Lounge era had started in early 2020, the community's activity started to decrease. While it was possible for the chats to get more active than they ever were, the general consistency of a base community was low. For this reason, people had searched for potential causes and solutions for this happening. One cause was identified to be because of Rolling Sky's decline and eventual death which the community generally consisted of. However it was still questioned why people hadn't stayed in the base community due to its relatively long time of lasting.

Theory of Interaction

This question had stayed all the way from the start of the era until 2021, where a theory was formed on why the server had gotten in such a situation. To create that theory, several servers were inspected and several testing servers created to see what keeps people active. One study of this theory included the clear benefit of a server if it has a defined topic. This theory elaborates this by saying that people who are interested in a topic would rather search a Discord server which had that interest as main topic to ensure that it'd be clear that the members of the server shared the same interest as the member did which would be a benefit in terms of conversation possibilities. At that time, Rolling Lounge's Community Center, the Main Chat had issues building up conversations, which was explained with this theory.

To fix this problem, solutions were searched by the management, which came to the conclusion to take a concept of server management done by other servers on Discord (such as MediaPlay Discord and the Geometry Dash server) which was Networking, a way to make servers more topic-specific. Starting from October to November, the network structure was planned and then eventually built until its initial release in November 21st of 2021.

New Servers

  • Rolling Lounge acted as a center for the entire network, remaining a community based server.
  • The topics Rolling Sky, Rolling Fanmade and Rhythm Join were moved to the RL | RS Fanmade Hub server.
  • The topic Rolling Sky Remake was moved to the RL | Rolling Sky Remake server.
  • The RL | Appeal server was added to give people the possibility to question sentences made to punish them.

District Principles

The districts were built similar to the Network Center Rolling Lounge with a similar channel and permission system. The servers follow the Network Rules (rules which apply to every server in the Rolling Lounge Network) and also add their district-specific rules depending on the environment of the server.

Extended Network

3 days after the initial network release, the network was expanded with the use of another portal made available in Rolling Lounge, the Extended Portal. This portal included the servers RL | SMP and RL | Wiki and were only made available for people above Level 10. Those servers have the characteristics of not being targeted for a greater audience but rather smaller communities from the Main Server. Their channel structure don't try to resemble Rolling Lounge's and the Network Rules don't apply there, they rather have their own rules. One detail of the Extended Network servers is also that every member has the right to claim a personal role as the servers are seen as rather laid back.

Announcement

AZMindroma introduced the opening with this announcement:

Hello @everyone! Today I am proud to introduce one of the biggest not if the ultimately biggest change we have ever done in this server's history. Introducing... the Rolling Lounge Network!

Rolling Lounge is a very big server with a lot of variety of topics. Unfortunately, that leaves us with a lot of disadvantages, such as us not being able to give specific topics as much love as they deserve and need. On the other hand, the crazy high amount of channels in this server leaves many people confused on where to find a channel to talk and about what to talk.

As you can see, the community is confused about what to talk in main-chat while game-specific chats work in a better way, and we want to expand on that. To make the community better than ever, we want to give you guys the best possible server experience you all need and deserve!

What is the Rolling Lounge Network, specifically?

The Rolling Lounge Network is a group of servers with a Center (this server) and several Districts. The districts focus on more precise topics and give you the ability to join a server that you are truly interested in, for example, if you only like Rolling Sky Remake, you can join the RL | Rolling Sky Remake Server! This relieves stress from both the managament and the members which makes this system a lot better!

By any means, this Network is not trying to separate the community. In fact, the end goal of this change is to bring the community closer than it could have ever been by bringing people together who have the same interests.

What will happen with this server, though?

Actually, not much! We will keep staying a community server with a lot of fun events and activities to partake in! We will also try to set up a help center in this server so you can learn and teach things in here.

What are these Districts about?

All main districts are accessible from the portal channel, where you can see these 4 servers:
1. Rolling Lounge - The center of the Rolling Lounge Networks. It's a community centered topics with events about all the games included in Rolling Lounge and a lot of other fun channels!
2. Rolling Lounge | Rolling Sky Fanmade Hub - Everything about Rolling Sky and its fanmades like Rhythm Join and Rolling Fanmade can be discussed here! You may also participate in Rolling Sky Fanmade specific votings tournaments to become a weekly featured!
3. Rolling Lounge | Rolling Sky Remake - Everything about Pão's Rolling Sky Remake can be discussed here, you can also share your own levels to the community here!
4. Rolling Lounge | Appeals - A place where you can appeal a warn/ban gotten in any of the Rolling Lounge Network servers.

TL;DR (Too Long, Didn't Read): The Rolling Lounge Network is out to improve the server experience for everyone so people can join servers with topics that they are truly interested in. Make sure to visit portal to check out the servers and have fun!
